How do assistive therapies work?
By utilising proven therapeutic methods, assistive therapy sessions can help you overcome life's obstacles, address mental health challenges and help you to achieve your goals.
Long Term Benefits
Psychology practices learnt in therapy have positive impacts on people's everyday lives such as reducing stress and anxiety, increasing resilience and promoting self-growth, wellbeing, and quality of life. With building of insight an individual can improve their decision making and behaviours based on understanding their past to better predict future behaviour. Skills developed in sessions can aid in personal growth, build empowerment and have the life long benefit of relying on skills to support ones self.
Finding the Right Fit
Different therapists will have different personal styles – we are all human after all. You should feel that, even when you are feeling challenged by your therapist, that their personal style fits your needs and preferences well. You will know that your therapist is a good fit for you by how you feel during the vulnerable, difficult, challenging, and insightful moments of your therapy.
Boundaries of the Therapy Relationship
You are not expected to automatically get how this therapy thing works – and that includes the boundaries involved in a good therapy relationship. A good therapy experience will have occasions in which your therapists kindly and clearly alerts you to a boundary that is needed to keep your therapy relationship exactly that – a therapy relationship.
Understanding the Ups and Downs
If you are coming out of every session beaming with happiness and positives – you may find that your therapist isn’t doing so good for you. This is why. You likely came to therapy because you were struggling with something, right? Doesn’t it make sense that therapy is going to feel a little uncomfortable sometimes as you address this struggle? During good therapy you should feel challenged, defensive, resistant, vulnerable, maybe even a little embarrassed to tell your story in its completeness.
Good to know.
Everything you need to know about the therapies I offer
Do different therapy types have different pricing?
Standard therapy sessions are 1-hour long and cost $170 per session. Half sessions are also available and cost $100 per session. Psychological assessments and neurocognitive assessments (exploring ADHD, Learning Difficulties, Intellectual disorders or giftedness) can range from $1,000 - $1,700 depending on the challenges being explored. Numerous assessments may be utilised, including possible school observations and clinical interviews with the client and family, as well as a clinical report and feedback sessions upon completion of the therapy.
How many therapy sessions are recommended?
The length of engagement for therapy is different for each individual. The goals you wish to achieve and the initial plan both factor into the number of recommended sessions. For some clients, a couple of sessions is all that is needed - for others, we might work weekly for a period of a month or so.
We will talk about this in our first session and agree on a plan that works for you. A Medicare rebate is available for between 6-10 sessions each year. Most individuals utilise the maximum number of sessions per calendar year. More intensive support can be offered if the support plan identifies that the individual may require this approach.
